Xiaomi Redmi 6, 6A, 6 Pro Launched in India

The Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi has launched its latest smartphones in Redmi 6 series, in Indian market. The company announced the launch of three new smartphones that include a Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, and Redmi 6 Pro at an event held in New Delhi. All these three variants run MIUI 9 on top of Android Oreo, sport tall displays with 18:9 and 19:9 aspect ratios, and AI-powered face unlock capabilities. The Pro variant is the most premium of the lot, which sports a display notch on top. Few of the common features among these three handsets are dual VoLTE, Face Unlock and Unlock with Mi Band, dedicated microSD card slot, and promised support for Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10 custom UI.

Let us take a look at the specifications of these new smartphones by Xiaomi:

Redmi 6:

The Redmi 6 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) with an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM and packs a 32GB/64GB internal storage, which can be further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. This duel-Sim (Nano) support device runs MIUI 9.6 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

Coming to the camera department, this phone features a dual rear camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor, coupled with Portrait Mode. Up front, it features a 5-megapixel selfie camera with certain AI beautification capabilities.

In terms of connectivity options, it includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors onboard include fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, electronic compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. The Redmi 6 is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery with support for 5W charging.

Redmi 6A:

The Redmi 6A sports the same 5.45-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB internal storage, which can be further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. This dual-SIM (Nano) support device also runs MIUI 9.6 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

Coming to the camera department, this handset features a single 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with PDAF. Up front it features a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.

In terms of connectivity options, it includes 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5 headphone jack. Sensors onboard include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, electronic compass, and a proximity sensor. The Redmi 6A is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery, which the company claims will deliver up to 40 percent more juice.

Redmi 6 Pro:

The Redmi 6 Pro (premium one) sports a 5.84-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a display notch (with the option to hide the notch). It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB/4GB of RAM. This device packs a 32GB/64GB of internal storage, which can be further expandable via microSD card. This dual-SIM (Nano) support device also runs MIUI 9.6 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

Now, let us take a look at the cost and availability of these new smartphones:

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 in India is priced at Rs. 7,999 for the 3GB/32GB storage variant. While, the 3GB/64GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 9,499. This handset will be sold in India starting September 10 via Flipkart and Mi.com. This variant will be available in Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue colour options.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A in India is priced at Rs. 5,999 for the 2GB/16GB storage variant. While, the 2GB/32GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 6,999. This handset will be available for purchase from September 19 and will be held on Amazon India and Mi.com. Similar to the Redmi 6, this variant will also be available in Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue hues colour options.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro in India is priced at Rs. 10,999 for the 3GB/32GB storage variant. While, the 4GB/64GB storage variant has been priced at Rs. 12,999. This handset will be available for purchase via Amazon India and Mi.com, with the first sale to be held on September 11. This variant will be available in Red, Black, Gold, and Blue colour options.
