The popular messaging App, WhatsApp has rolled out two new features, like support for picture-in-picture and ability to have text as status message for both its Android and iPhone users as the Facebook-owned messaging app continues to improve its features for its over one billion customers. The first feature which is called picture-in-picture, allows users to resize the video calling window and move it around if they want to text a friend or do something else at the same time. This means that both Android and iOS users will now be able to minimize video calls to a corner of the display while browsing through other messages in the instant messaging app. All the user has to do is, once a video call begins, simply tap the back button shown in the app to switch to PIP mode. But there is a small catch to it. The picture-in-picture video calls update will only be available for Android users whose smartphones have been updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. For iOS users, the feature works just fine on iOS 10.
The second feature which is rolled out offers WhatsApp users to have text-only updates as their status. In the past users were only allowed to put their pictures and video as status, and have text overlay on it. The new version of WhatsApp build lets users choose the background colour and add the text. These text-only statuses also will disappear in 24 hours. Notably, this feature started rolling out to Android and iPhone users since late last month, and it appears to be generally available now for most of the users.WhatsApp has been frequently trying to addnew capabilities and improve its existing feature lately. The company recently announced verified accounts for business customers, who are getting verified profiles on the service. The company, of course, as you recall is working on bringing support for UPI payments in India.
