The new Apple iOS 12 comes with more NFC functions, like unlocking doors & cars

Good news for iPhone users, the company’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2018, which takes place from June 4 to June 8 will reveal its latest OS version, Apple iOS 12. As per reports, there is no major hardware announcement expected this year. While, iOS 12 is expected to come with some new features and more focus on quality.

According to the reports, the latest Apple’s iOS 12 will expand NFC capabilities on iPhones, which will let users to unlock doors and cars by using their iPhones. Also, the Apple iOS 12 will come with support for universal apps, where both macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 will support one app that can work across iPhones, iPads and Macs.

Compared to Bluetooth, NFC (Near-field communication) is a more secure way of authentication. NFC on iPhone is currently limited for Apple Pay and mobile payments, unlike their counter parts. On Android phones, NFC supports more features. So, looks like Apple will expand the functions, by which iPhone users could soon pay for transit fares, open doors, verify identity with the NFC chip on their devices. The reports also claim that Apple employees are already using their iPhones to enter and exit buildings and offices in their campus.

In terms of release, Apple will likely release the public beta of iOS 12, macOS 10.14, the new watchOS, etc after WWDC 2018, and users will be able to test out the upcoming software on their devices. However, the final public build of iOS 12 will likely come in mid-September after the new iPhone X for 2018 has been revealed.
