Nokia’s Android Go Smartphone, Nokia 1 Launched in India

HMD Global is bringing its first smartphone running Android Oreo Go Edition to India. Nokia 1, the company’s first smartphone running Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition), will be finally available in India for sale. The Nokia brand of HMD Global company had announced this Android Go edition smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2018. The Android Go ecosystem promises to deliver an optimised experience in budget smartphones and comes with lighter versions of Google apps and services, such as Gmail Go and Google Maps Go.


Few key feature of this new Nokia 1 are: it is company’s most affordable handset, it comes with the ability to use Xpress On two-tone polycarbonate exchangeable covers that lets users personalise its looks.

Let us take a look at the specifications of this new smartphone by Nokia.

The Nokia 1 features a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixels) IPS display. This smartphone is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB of internal storage which is further expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

Coming to the camera department, Nokia 1 sports a 5-megapixel camera on the rear side with a fixed focus lens and an LED flash. Up front, it has a 2-megapixel fixed focus camera.

On Connectivity front, this latest dual-SIM (nano) smartphone offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm audio jack. About the sensors on board, it bears an accelerometer, ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor. The Nokia 1 is fuelled by a 2150mAh battery (removable), which is claimed to deliver up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time. The company also offers a headset inside the box.

Now, let us look into the price and availability of this new smartphone.

The new Nokia 1 in India will be priced at Rs. 5,499. This smartphone will be available across offline stores in the country. Nokia 1 will come in Dark Blue and Warm Red colour variants.

Meanwhile, the Xpress On covers should be bought separately, which are priced at Rs. 450 and will be available in Azure and Grey or Yellow and Pink colours. These covers will be available in the market starting next month.
