Dandruff is a common problem with change in environment and lifestyle. It may not be a huge problem but it definitely becomes one when it is a threat to image and slays the confidence. It’s embarrassing to go to parties or any other important gathering with those snowy flakes peeping out of hair.
Dandruff is a scalp condition which gets triggered due to many factors viz. skin dryness, stress and anxiety, excessive usage of comb or brush, not washing hair timely, depriving hair of oil, etc. When in mild form, it is visible as light white flakes on head and on shoulders. It tends to get itchy and may turn into acne. During summer, it gets plastered on scalp due to natural oil secretion of our scalp and in winter it becomes more visible on hair due to dry and flaky scalp.
No, there is no need to panic. Calm down! Dandruff can be easily treated permanently with some patience and little care without getting enrolled in expensive treatment. You need not visit a hair specialist either. Just follow the following tips and make your hair dandruff free:
1. Lemon works best against dandruff:
Squeeze and generously apply lemon juice on your scalp evenly. The acidic nature of lemon may cause minor itching on your scalp but try to bear it, it will stop after few minutes. Leave for 20 minutes then rinse your hair properly. You may use a mild shampoo if you wish. Lemon is also a natural conditioner for hair. Repeat the process 2-3 times a week. You will notice the change within a week.
2. Curd or Yogurt kills the dandruff:
Dandruff is formed mainly due to dry scalp when the scalp loses moisture hence, it’s
imperative to restore the lost moisture on your head to get rid of dandruff. Curd helps is
replenishing the moisture. Take a bowl of sour curd (you may leave curd in open for a couple of days to make it sour) and apply evenly on your scalp covering the entire area. Keep it for half an hour then rinse thoroughly with plain water or you may use a mild shampoo.
3. Avoid frequent brushing of your hair:
In some cases, dandruff could be a result of excessive brushing. By frequently brushing your hair you are robbing your scalp off moisture. Avoid brushing extensively.
4. Lemon wash:
Another way of using lemon against dandruff is to prepare a solution by boiling lemon peels (4-5 lemons) in 5 cups of water. Wash your hair with this solution twice a week. You are bound to bid adieu to dandruff after this treatment.
5. Olive oil and Lemon treatment:
Heat some olive oil in a bowl. Apply it all over your scalp with the help of cotton wool. Now, rub your scalp gently. For better absorption of oil, heat water and dip a towel into it.
Squeeze out excess water off your towel and wrap it around your head. Leave it for few
minutes. Repeat the process of hot towel wrap 3- 4 times. Keep your hair oiled overnight.
Next day, apply lemon juice evenly on your scalp half an hour before you wash your hair.
Follow this process twice a week for better results.
6. Fenugreek seeds:
Soak 3 teaspoons of fenugreek seeds overnight. Next morning, grind it into a fine paste and apply evenly on scalp. Leave it for half an hour then rinse properly, use mild shampoo if needed. Repeat the process every week. You will find dandruff gone leaving your hair shiny and smooth after four applications. If you do not want to apply paste, you can just boil the soaked fenugreek seeds, strain and wash your hair with it as last rinse. Remember, do not pour any more water on your hair after pouring fenugreek water. Just towel dry.
7. Neem Leaves concoction:
Everyone is aware of many benefits of Neem leaves. Well, it can also be used to win battle
against those stubborn dandruffs. Neem is an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory
substance. Neem leaves keep infections at bay, relieves you from itching and makes your

a) Boil Neem leaves for at least half an hour. Strain and use water as last rinse after
washing your hair.
b) Soak Neem leaves in hot water overnight. Strain the water next morning and rinse your
scalp with it properly.
c) Soak Neem leaves in hot water overnight. Make a paste of leaves and apply
Henna is known for its cooling agent and nourishment for hair. It’s proved to be a good
natural conditioner for hair. It restores pH balance and makes your scalp and hair healthy.
Apply Henna every fortnight to get rid of dandruff permanently. Soak Henna powder
overnight (preferably in an iron bowl). Next morning, add two teaspoons of yoghurt and
juice of one lemon (you may add egg white also if you wish). Apply on your scalp and hair.
Leave it for couple of hours then rinse your hair thoroughly. For better results, do not apply shampoo to wash Henna off. Just rinse with water. Dry your hair and apply hair oil. Keep it overnight then wash with a mild shampoo the next day.
9. Aloe Vera :
Aloe Vera is anti-fungal hence, it eliminates itching of scalp, moistures and soothes the
nerves. Grab Aloe Vera stands from your potted plants, scoop out the gel and apply all over your scalp. Leave it for half an hour then rinse your hair with a mild shampoo. It’s one of the best medicines for dandruff.
10. Eggs as the source:
Eggs also restores pH balance and are good conditioners for hair. Beat two eggs (you may
take only egg white if you do not want to deal with smell of yolks) and apply evenly on your scalp. Keep for an hour and wash.
