Baahubali: Before the Beginning; Netflix announces a 2 season prequal series of Baahubali

The on-demand video streaming giants, Netflix has announced a new upcoming Indian original series. The series will be called ‘Baahubali: Before the Beginning’. This will be a prequel series to the popular Baahubali franchise, it will be partly an adaptation of The Rise of Sivagami, a prequel novel to the 2015 film Baahubali: The Beginning.

This upcoming series will pack 9 episodes in its first season, which is based on the 2017 book by writer Anand Neelakantan. The Rise of Sivagami is the first of a proposed novel trilogy called Baahubali: Before the Beginning.

As per reports, Netflix has already given a two-season order. Deva Katta (Prassthanam) and Praveen Sataru (Guntur Talkies) will co-direct this series. Katta had revealed that, this show was under development since last month. He also mentioned that it will have three seasons. Netflix might extend to third season depending upon the success of the series.

Netflix Official description regarding this series read, “This (prequel) series captures Queen Sivagami’s journey from a rebellious and vengeful girl to a wise and unequalled queen. Power, politics and intrigue find themselves juxtaposed against the rise of Mahishmati – from being a city-state to an empire. This is the rich backdrop and drama where the Baahubali franchise is set. The series promises to build on the incredible narrative style of the franchise – including its high production values, spectacular visuals and connective-epic story-telling.”

Baahubali: Before the Beginning will be produced in partnership with director S.S. Rajamouli (Baahubali movie director) and the original production house Arka Media Works. Baahubali: Before the Beginning will be the second television venture, following Amazon’s animated series Baahubali: The Lost Legends that released last year. These series got its start from 2015 with the release of Baahubali: The Beginning, followed by the sequel, Baahubali: The Conclusion. Both these films put together have earned over Rs. 24 billion in global ticket sales.
